Minnesota State Fair Fine Art Exhibition rejection email.
I didn’t even get around to submitting this year. Living vicariously through other artists’ posts about rejection emails is a change of pace from the usual living vicariously through other friends’ online dating mishaps.
WARM Mentor and Art-car-surfing amazingwoman Jill Waterhouse once said it is best to aim for 100 rejections. Plan for them. Try to get them. Because if you take on this attitude of being brazenly unafraid of them, not only will they not bother you as much (obviously) but you will put your work out there more often and more than likely get at least one “yes” before you actually reach that 100 mark. Some of my favorite arts advice. Getting rejected by the State Fair is like a Minnesota artist’s rite of passage…one that for many of us happens year after year. Whatevs. At least they are rejecting most of us digitally instead of forcing us to lug our artwork in person over to the fairgrounds, only to have to pick it up again a week later.
